Six everyday adjustment moments
- 01 for fix-ups
A photo that came out too dark or too washed out
Phone photos in mixed light come out either too flat or too contrasty. Bump brightness to 110%, contrast to 115%, saturation to 105% — punchier without going cartoon. Three sliders, twenty seconds, photo saved.
- 02 for stories
A blurred photo for an Instagram story background
Stories often need a background image with text on top. Crank blur to 18px and the busy photo becomes a soft color wash that doesn't fight your text overlay. Pair with the Add Text to Photo tool for the full effect.
- 03 for moods
A hue-shifted photo for a stylized post
Hue rotate at +30° pushes everything warmer (oranges, reds). At -30° everything cools (cyans, purples). Useful for unifying photos shot in different white balances, or just for a mood-shifted edit.
- 04 for prints
Punch up an old scanned photo
Scanned old photos lose contrast over time. Bump contrast to 130%, saturation to 115%, brightness to 105%. The faded look becomes printable again. Save the JPG, send to the print lab.
- 05 for grayscale
A B&W version that doesn't feel flat
Drag grayscale to 100% then bump contrast to 140%. The photo goes B&W with proper tonal punch — better than a flat 'desaturate'. Pair with Film Grain for true darkroom feel.
- 06 for accessibility
A high-contrast version for low-vision viewers
Bump contrast to 170%, brightness to 105%. Photos read more clearly on screens for low-vision users. Useful when photos are part of an article or presentation that needs WCAG-friendly contrast.
Frequently asked
Does the photo upload anywhere? +
No. The adjustments use canvas filters in your browser. Your photo never touches our servers — we don't run an image pipeline at all.
How is this different from Photo Filters? +
Photo Filters has named presets (Sepia, Polaroid, Moody Grain, etc.) — pre-tuned combinations. Adjust gives you raw access to the seven canvas filter primitives so you can dial in something custom. Use Adjust when nothing in Filters quite hits.
What does hue-rotate do? +
Shifts every pixel's color hue by N degrees around the color wheel. +30° pushes blues toward purple, greens toward yellow-green, etc. -30° goes the other way. Useful for harmonizing mismatched shots or creating mood shifts.
Can I save my adjustment values? +
Not in v1 — settings reset on page refresh. For consistent looks across multiple photos, jot down the slider values that worked, or save a screenshot of the side panel.
Why is blur in pixels and not %? +
Pixel-based blur is what canvas natively understands; converting to % would need to know source dimensions. The blur slider scales with render resolution — 10px blur on a small preview matches the same visual amount on a large export.
Should I sharpen here or in another tool? +
Canvas filters don't include sharpen — it requires a convolution kernel that the canvas API doesn't expose. For sharpening, use a real photo editor or run the photo through Halftone with a fine spacing for an alternative crispness.
